I believe strongly in the power of small business. Small businesses are vital to communities, particularly small communities like the one I live in. They are the heartbeat of the town, regularly participating in local events, supporting local charities, and making our little port town a great place to visit.
When you shop, eat, drink, and support local you are giving back to your own community; keeping the circle of economic growth and livelihood close to home. Shopping small online is a great idea too! And most small shops have unique and awesome products that you won't find at the big box stores - sure to be the talk of the family with your beautiful wrapping & awesome gifts! Sure, the big box retailers will tempt you with their sales and free shipping, but I encourage you to get out in your local community this year. Not only will you be happy with the selection, but you will be making connections right here at home. And did you know that most small stores have awesome Black Friday sales during regular business hours? That's right, you can sleep that Turkey off and shop normal hours from 10 am - 6 or 7 pm and still get the discounts you are searching for. Spend that extra time with your family, after all isn't that what the Holidays are about?
My goal for this Christmas is to buy 100% of my gifts locally and from small businesses. I hope some of you will join me! I'll be posting local gift guides for ladies, kids, men, and anyone on your list this year.
